It's not svelte and pretty like other flagships. It has to be admitted that I do really like this phone, and it has been a long time since a Sony smartphone has truly impressed me. The Xperia XZ has got a refreshing, new, and beautiful design which is still true to Sony, and also features a beautiful display, excellent performance, and a really great camera. Sony might have taken a rare step backwards in the design department but the monolithic slab is solidly constructed and not tacky — like some others in flashy gold or silver. During the press briefing for the XZ, this was nowhere to be seen in the marketing material.

Sony's ultimate flagship this year has finally arrived though we are still entertaining the thought of an X Premium. However, there are just so many places where it falls short, especially compared to the strong competition: its display features bluish and not properly balanced colors, it sometimes stutters, it has a fairly scarce 20GB of user-available storage space, its camera is slow and often counter-intuitive, with images and videos that are not on the same level as the ones from iPhones and Galaxies, it lacks quick charging and in the United States it even ships without a fingerprint scanner.

Media fans will enjoy the crisp, colourful screen and excellent audio support, while the solid battery life and performance makes the XZ a respectable all-rounder.

No one said anything about an XZ at that time, and the X Performance was judged as a top-shelf model, which it certainly is, but in price alone.
