Troubleshooting SharePoint 2013 Hosted Apps on-premises: “404 not found” error

SharePoint - Development and Programming. Since there are some 32bit dlls referenced with my ASP. NET application, this creates a problem when I try to change to platform target of 64 bit. For resolution, I created a separate service application running in a different process all the time. Luckily I had a scheduler kind of requirement so this workaround helped me. I had to run Visual Studio in Administrator mode also.

Event receiver? Web part? You have described it really well and I was having the same issue. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application. It was the first time I encountered this and this is how I moved about resolving the issue 1.

Checked if the URL was really not available. That wasn't the case. The URL was very much valid and hence this option got eliminated. Google search on this issue almost always pointed to the bit-ness of the platform.
