If you reboot the phone, and check the "Switch Application" after the phone has finished rebooting, App World is already running and you cannot, no matter what you do, get it to load Re-installing App World does no good The good thing is, after months of trying to figure this problem out, I have just this week figured out how I can prevent it from happening.

It seems that the issue occurs if you choose the "Restart Now" option after you have upgraded an app while App World is still open, once the phone reboots, you can no longer get App World to load. Once you have completely exited from App World, do a battery pull to complete the app upgrade.

Sorry my ramble doesn't really help the OP's problems but thought I would share.
