How to lenghten the battery life in HTC Windows Phone 8S?

HTC says that the battery on this handset is high performing, and certainly attention seems to have been paid to constant gripes about poor battery life in mobiles because the HTC 8S has a generous mAh battery. It easily saw me through a day without feeling I needed to dash off and find the mains. The back-mounted speaker has a fairly high top volume, but quality is not great when sound is at its loudest with distorted tones and lack of clarity the key features.

Opt for headphones and the top volume is far too loud for comfort and again quite distorted. Tone things down and quality improves greatly both through headphones and handset speaker. Windows Phone is a much more locked down operating system than Android.

In the case of the HTC 8S there are lamentably few extra apps. The HTC app does offer weather information and adds in stocks data and news feeds.

The app is not as compelling as it is on Android, but at least it does deliver a large live tile with time and local weather details. This app is reminiscent of what HTC offers in Android, but has no additional cropping or editing features. The camera, incidentally, shoots 5-megapixel stills and p video.

That said, I am still not entirely convinced by Windows Phone as an operating system. Nor is the apps offering wide enough for my tastes. Its price is a clear draw, and the newly available memory expansion option opens up side-loading storage options which will enhance its appeal. But the onboard memory quota is pitiful, really. There is only 4GB of onboard storage, although this can be expanded via a microSD card, which sits under a coloured tab at the bottom of the handset. Not only can Windows not compete with iOS and Android when it comes to the number of apps on offer, the ones that are available are not great quality and are not all optimised for the WP8 devices. Turn off location settings on your phone and you have no hope of accessing the apps. Even signing out can be hard — it took us some time to work out how to get out of Skype! The battery is also a disappointment — it would be a big plus if it was possible to replace it. We just about got a working day out of a full charge, with very careful use, but stream video with the screen on full brightness and the juice drains after only minutes.

Very poor — and the phone got pretty warm during this test too, which is a concern. The Windows Phone 8S by HTC is lightweight at only g, yet solidly built — and its design manages to be unusual without being over the top. Huawei Cashback offer.
