Ok it seems O2 are either not showing any knowledge of this regular problem or avoiding acknowledging it. There are a few things that will turn a text into a media message or a sms into a mms. The important factor is most contracts will charge you for the MMS regardless of how many sms you have.

Now in the past O2 used to have a ration on mms cost, basically if you sent a mms it cost you the equivalent of 4 sms on your credit. Now the problem is you don't know when your sending a sms or a mms until its too late and bang your charged. Your complain to O2 about the charge and they blame it on you. Now in some cases this is true, if you send a video,picture,sound file or even a a special emoticon or you will effectively crate a mms instead of a sms and this is chargeable.

However, the main problem is Android or Android based phones such as the Samsung galaxy range. The standard preinstalled program or app for handling text messaging is at fault. To keep it simple people refer to the standard apps as stock apps. BUT why should i? Its been confirmed on android and Samsung forums this problem exists.

O2 are also reluctant to release any firmware updates for these phones so i have to ask the question why? Are they in denial? In selling a phone and contract that charges you this way they are in breach of contract. Yes if i send a picture message i should get charged but if i send a long text message or a group message its a sms , i should not be charged and they should not allow the phone or contract to charge me either.

This should have used up about 50 sms credits on my unlimited contract,however, i got charged 50 mms.

What a long post. If this is as you suggest a fault with the Android default apps then it is not an O2 problem but is down to Google and the Manufacturer. O2 do not of themselves issue updates. After two years of Andriod I have always found that if you don't like the stock app then change it.

True its a android issue, but Samsung has to be one of the larger brands o2 supplies that has android so i feel a generalisation is allowed. Also its not s much the problem is O2 reluctance to read remails or actaully see the problem is not due ot a faulty phone or dirty sim card but actually due to a repeatable design flaw in the most android phones. Yes i spoken to cs on 2 occasions via email. However, it's not the case.

It may be due to some error. Please remove the SIM card from the phone and wipe it with a soft dry cloth and then replace it back in the phone. The SIM card is usually located in the back of the phone under the battery.

The next step is to perform a manual network selection. This procedure will 'refresh' your connection with O2. To do this, you will need to navigate through your mobile phone's menu options and locate the network selection menu. This option will vary with different manufacturers - please see your user manual for further information.
