However, I would say there is a distinct design flaw in this stand, in that it is very difficult to attach the base to the riser. You are given this hard plastic "washer" that is supposed to flex somewhat as you push down on the locking mechanism.

I'm not technically challenged generally, but the plastic washer does not "flex" as much as you need it to, and it takes near superhuman strength to get the locking mechanism to engage. I emailed IK customer service. I received a response that was "the washer will flex with pressure applied to it". Well, at least I got a response. I can't believe this was the design used for a very popular consumer product.

I can only imagine kids would be able to do it, but I had a hard time with it. Because of it, I can't recommend this stand. Love this stand! Appears to be solid and we'll constructed.

Technical Details

It was taller than expected. Mini fits very snugly. Must remove mini from case to use. We bought this product as a Christmas present for our 13 year old daughter.

And she is in love with it! This way she can use her iPad mini without worrying that it might fall! I contacted IK Multimedia support about this, and they said that I needed to reverse the direction that the iPad is inserted. However, I tried that prior to contacting them, and the problem is that the side switch will not allow the iPad to slide through without applying significant force. Poor engineering and a poor response from the manufacturer. You can of course use a dock extension cord or a small adapter to make it work, but that's additional expense for two already fairly expensive items.

I would understand perhaps if a 3rd party was making the MIDI adapter, but apparently these two product development shops don't communicate at IK. When I tried to assemble the iKlip Stand I couldn't get the compression washer on the bottom to compress enough to twist the locking nut onto the shaft of the upright.

A sturdy, adjustable stand for iPad and iPad mini

I'm a big guy and applied all my weight and still couldn't get the washer to give. Finally, I put the washer in a dish of boiled water and, after about three minutes, I pulled out the washer and tried again.

That did it - the washer was pliable enough to compress. Now the Stand works with fine my iPad 3 with a glass screen protector. But it seems big and bulky and isn't solid enough to use a stylus. I'm not sure what it's good for, but I'll play with it for awhile to see if just getting the iPad closer to my face is worth the big bucks.

I'll up my star rating if it proves useful. I just tried to remove my iPad 3 from the iKlip Stand. There are no instructions included in the box for iPad removal, so I began by prying one clip back to release my iPad. Using a lot of force, I wasn't able to release my device but I did pull the clip back to the edge of my glass screen protector and the iKlip started to lift my screen protector, causing a big bubble.
