I'm going to spend a while getting used to the phone as provided by Orange before moving on to the exciting stuff. If there are hardware problems I want them to show up before I do anything wild with it. The phone was set up to use the Orange Home Screen so I accidentally signed up to Orange Mobile Mail with my gmail account thinking I was configuring my Android with my google username. I quickly switched the home screen to Launcher and configured properly, and I suppose the Orange email trial will expire. Dialing my home number makes the phone ring so that's sorted.

The APN is 3internet with no username or password, and once I had entered it and selected it the data connection phase worked in the Wireless and networks setting. Back it up, maybe root it and uninstall some of the pointless Orange stuff. I'm sure there are some good reasons for a new ROM but I'm fine with it as it currently is.

It did cost me 99p to buy a non-orange sim mind, but it's still a pretty damn good price I'm currently running swedish spring with launcher pro and the gingerbread theme, as it gives you a black status bar, and i'm loving it. I think my son is in love. I let him try it last night and it didn't leave his hands for two hours. I've had a SanFran since the 1st of Jan and wasn't impressed.

The Swedish spring very much sounds like this. I'm most intrigued by the CyanogenMod philosophy of unshipping as much Google software as is humanly possible. Minimalism is fun and healthy. Death to bloat!
