The system asked me if I wanted to download the correct dictionary. Then I changed the system language back to English, but the Chinese dictionary still works when looking up Chinese language text. It has some major drawbacks at the moment.

I am surprised that none of the ios6 promotional literature highlighted this. Thanks for this post — it prompted me to try the SPEAK function which I noticed when I was downloading iOS6 in the Apple run-down of the new features and this certainly looked interesting.

I have it on an iPod Touch4 yes, they still exist, not quite a museum piece — I guess this extends the useful life of my iPod a little. I tried it on a longish email and it worked perfectly, except for the highlighting of characters. This went berserk half way through, but the voice continued without a hitch. I had no problems with pronunciation mentioned above. No Japanese. I then tried it on Touch China a tourist ap which already has a speech function built in.

The Apple speech function is superior — nice and loud and clear. For some reason the built-in speech function is too quiet to use if you are in a public place. If you like this story, be sure to go vote for it…. Sounds quite robotic to me. Share this: Facebook Twitter Email.

The two finger down swipe was a little trickier, but it works. So helpful — thanks! You do. But some words it pronounces really weird, especially Bible references.

I use the robot voice pretty regularly to do my school work, if you use Alex voice it is pretty easy to acclimate to. Alex is a little else robotic.

I too got the voice to read from Logos. I use this feature with Logos as well. It seems to read Logos continuously even if the screen is turned off. My first task in seminary was to figure out how to get my Android to read to me so that I can listen while rowing at the gym.

I like the ivona beta TTS voice. She sounds lovely. Calibre can be used for getting past the DRM text lock and then something like Dropbox can be used to bridge the content pass of unlocked ebook text between Calibre and the nice iPhone app Voice Dream. Another helpful tip: If you are using earbuds with inline controls, you can use those controls to pause the Kindle book. First, open Spotify and play a playlist some other music players may work?

With the music playing, go to the Kindle app and swipe down to active Speak Screen, this will pause the music.

However, my screen continues to say no speakable content when I open a kindle book. Or are some Kindle books just in an unreadable format?
