Mind reading isn't part of the technicians 'toolbox'. To date, after a reset, the loss of network with 'out of range' error happens a minimum of twice a day.

In addition, there have been random lockups ranging from the phone being frozen like a locked computer. I have to hard restart by holding down the power button. It has locked up in mid-sentence several times while listening to an audio book. It never comes out of the locked up state and it seems independent of the wifi problem in that the network connection icon is still present. Everything being frozen keeps me from investigating any deeper. Overall, I think it's my phone itself in my case. Performance is definitely trending downward. I haven't contacted V. Mobile Tech support yet.

I haven't had the best luck with anybody's product customer support. I had really hoped the shake test would have shown something. It apparently was an issue with my phone. Virgin replaced it with the identical model about a week after my last post. It has lost WiFi maybe twice in all that time. That was usually after returning from the far perimeter of my yard back into range of my router's WiFi. Otherwise I have had no more problems with it showing Out of range. Even actually going out of range and then back in, except for those couple of times, reconnects fine.

I have been getting a lot of comments and emails from my readers who seem to be having issues connecting or staying connected with their Wi-Fi even after trying to setup a Static IP address and sometimes even after performing a full Factory Data Reset on their smartphone. After thinking about these issues for a while it occurred to me that the issues listed above are most often the result of something on the phone causing problems which this article covers BUT could also be a problem with the wireless network that you are attempting to connect to as well.

As such I have written an additional Wi-Fi Advanced Troubleshooting guide that addresses the possibility of an improperly configured wireless network and offers some advice on troubleshooting the network itself as opposed to simply troubleshooting the phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and no matter what I do firmware update on router, reset router AND phone to factory defaults, Replaced Router which was actually only 3 weeks old to begin with None of this helps. It is only my home network that I see the issue with. I am at wits end and do not know what else to do besides pay for a phone upgrade and hope to god that I can connect with a diff phone.. I convinced a family member to get that phone when it first came out and I just got the S4 they are good phones. You have told the phone to forget your Home Wi-Fi address and information and have tried to log into it from the very beginning right? Not simply changing the password but also scanning for the wireless network, finding it, logging onto it, etc? I'm having the same problem as Dave and it just happened recently after six months of no problems at all with the same wifi, router, etc. Out of the blue my phone will no longer connect.
