Usb drive nokia lumia 800
I cant find anything on the phone itself in the settings either. It also shows in 'safely eject hardware and eject media. Dvk01 -thanks that looks promising! However I followed the instructions, when the phone was rebooting I got a picture on the phone showing a picture of the phone, a USB cable and a laptop which seemed to indicate USB Mass Storage Mode-then nothing more, just stayed like that, so I disconnected the usb cable, plugged it back in and this time in the task bar on my PC the symbol for a device being installed, finally the message 'usb input device installed'.
However back in windows my computer just the same, 'portable media player'.
Still no drive letter, nothing in disk management either But this really seems to be on the right track I'm sure. Some of the further advice on BCD and debugging is above my experience level and I don't have Windows 8 to download the software but I'm going to look into all this a bit more! Can you give me any more advice from here on in?
Thanks again. Hi, tried it several times, I am able to get it into the mode where the phone shows a picture of a phone connected with a cable to a laptop, but that's it unfortunately. No drive letter in Windows, just a portable media player in Devices and Printers named ''.
Fix: Windows 10 Laptop Doesn’t Recognize Lumia Smartphone
In properties the location is given as Port- I tried deleting the '' in Device manager inc the driver , when I do the logo on the phone disappears and the phone starts normally. If I enter the 'usb' mode all over again the phone looks for drivers in Windows Update and loads a lot of drivers , all but one with the word Zune involved. Also in this 'version' of the usb mode the phone does not show up at all in 'my computer'. Nor is there any sign in disc management.
I should add the phone is running Winndows Phone 7. I notice the article you pointed me to refers to Windows phone 8?.

OK guys thanks for input. I guess the other way to go is find data recovery software that doesn't need a drive letter, if that exists. Wondering if the photos may have been saved to a micro SD card installed in the phone. From that you should be able to assign a driver letter to the SD and use the recovery software. Windows has done a good job of making WP7 and WP8 to be MTP only vs a native mass storage security reasons and why we can't assign a drive letter. CoolBurn , Nov 12, Hi coolburn-ah if only there was an SD card!
No these Lumia phones don't take add on memory of any sort, in fact you can't even change the battery! I think Android phones by and large have removable storage. The only option I have left is, from what I've read , is to try to alter the boot configuration. No idea though where to begin and I think it needs specialist equipment If it does, then see about some data recovery software.
Don't remember if Puppy includes any. TerryNet , Nov 12, Ok Thanks Terrynet i'll look into that suggestion-never used Linux but never too late to learn! Show Ignored Content.
