Ipad 1 safari crashes a lot
Updated to iOS 5 a few days ago. Safari still crashes constantly. I took my iPads to the Genius Bar to demonstrate the problem. They said that the web sites were not iOS 5 compatible and need to be redesigned to support iOS 5. I have had these same problems. I have an iPad 1, I use it at home a lot and as a pilot I often found it useful with some approved apps, and my wife often uses it for doing our shopping and bits like that.
I tried all the suggestions I have found online and eventually went back to IOS 4. And now it works properly! I was quite a faff to do it, but worth the effort. It is however the same situation as the iPhone 3G becoming unusable, forcing users to buy the new kit. A very underhand trick and if Apple keep it up they will loose many loyal customers.
I have an iPad 2 with 64gb of ram. I was on iOS 4. What a debacle! So now i assume my only fix will be to downgrade to the old iOS 4. Yeah right. My girlfriend is having all kinds of trouble with her iPad 2 with Safari instantly crashing whenever she tries to open it. To say this is frustrating is an understatement — I want to throw my iPad out the window!

Truly I do. Apple sucks for not fixing this problem. Last Apple product I buy. I had so many crashes my iPad 1 was not even usable. However… it seems to be working fine now… i turned off all email accounts me. Gret suggestions, this problem has been driving me nuts. Many sites crashing even with all apps closed and one single window open, regardless of the browser tried many. Disabled java, cleared history, and now no crashing. Sites are even loading much faster!! Glad that you continue to work on this. I check back from time to time.
I typically restart. Once in awhile an app will not restart without a hard reboot. Again thanks for yours and Martins persistence on this. Some people have problems and others do not. It sounds like some of us may have downloaded apps that are not cleaning up memory properly… For those that know how to get at the iPad crash reports, are they referencing any specific apps other than Safari?
Here is how to get to crash reports http: I tried all the suggestions and none of them worked. My Safari crashes became even more frequent fare upgrading to IOS 5. I finally turned cookies off and have not had a single crash in a week. My iPad is now useless to me, crashes constantly, and nothing seems to fix it. First and last apple purchase, I promise. What a way for them to make a first impression. Nexus here I come. Anybody want a used iPad? Oh please. Trading one set of problems is not news. There is enought self serving, incorrect crap on the web as it is.
Long run? Found his comment more interesting than your derision. Would like to hear more about nexus…. I have the same problem as all the others here. My ipad2 has crashed most of its life. Disabled just about everything including icloud. When people say apple is so much better than the rest, I have to laugh out loud. But, hey, the packaging design is pretty. This is a big part of my resolution to never buy another Apple device.
Bring on the Ubuntu tablet! Yep crash crash crash, reset u make it done it all. Only thing this is good for is learning a new level of patience. And of course treating myself to android devices. Bye bye iPad iPhone Mac book buy buy apple. Not even for the day. Thanks osx. Apple needs to release an ios patch for this. Disabled it and Safari no longer crashes.
I have tried numerous fixes, deleted history and website data, etc. Was thinking newer 64 bit or wipe IPad2 were the only solutions. Tried your suggestion and it worked!!!!! Thank You!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, turning off JavaScript makes pages load. So frustrating.

Have tried installing other browsers. No joy. On iOS 9. Turn off JavaScript to fix. What a joke. No excuse for this. This company is going downhill fast. Name required. It's possible that with all those pads out there will be some that are failing. However there are folk that call any browser glitch, well what you wrote. I guess you've yet to see how bad browsing can be. Try any Smart TV! Spoke to Apple I got through on a separate, covered laptop issue and got them to transfer me to iPad support. My hardware checks out.
Safari crashes bc it is running out of memory. There's a bunch of suggestions you can dredge from forums on how to avoid this. I'll try one more wipe just out of curiosity and the just cope with whatever the device decides to do from now on. I suspect I'll still end up using a different browser but I'll let you know.

Follow up 1. Now that is not fixable. I call this I'm running into more and more that have no inkling that we can't expect same performance from desktop to tablets. Maybe someday. I have same problem with Safari crashing when navigating on http: Restarting the iPad didn't solve as it usually does for these issues.
Nov 12, Safari crashes on my first gen iPad almost every time I use it. Never happened before iOS 5. It also crashed when I tried your link. This needs to be fixed, it's making use on the iPad really difficult. These are user-to-user technical help forums hosted by Apple. We are all users here.

Nov 26, I installed opera since safari is a non starter on iPad 1 with iOS 5. Also using the wife's kindle fire Dec 17, I have 2 ipad 1's and have upgraded both to 5. Unfortunately, the safari browser on both crashes frequntly enough i finally did a search to see if others have the same issue. Yahoo, nfl.
