Samsung galaxy data roaming notification

It's a T-Mobile firmware issue on Samsung phones. Mine has gotten so bad now, it's almost every minute. And it doesn't matter if I turn roaming on or off. The only difference is one notification says Attention: Data roaming is turned off vs. Data roaming is turned on. What a nightmare. I'm living and studying in Chile for the next five months, and I started getting this notification as soon as I landed Feb 21 and they haven't let up since. I've only been here a few days but it is extremely impractical and at times dangerous.

As others have mentioned, it persists even when I turn off data roaming, switch to manual network switching, and turn off notifications from both T-Mobile and Samsung. I called T-Mobile beforehand to notify them that I'd be traveling for this time, so I obviously accept that I have data roaming activated. I can't imagine having to deal with this for the next five months. If I would have known T-Mobile's international service was virtually useless and so extremely frustrating, I would have switched before leaving the country.

If majority of your data usage are in Chile. TMobile will shut down your account with very little warning. Reguardless of your attempt to let them know the situation. I hope it doesn't happen to you.

It had happened to many. Be mindful. Good luck. I work just two blocks away from the Mexico border line and travel frequently to Mexico. So I get frequently this pop up and have some insight. The pop up is not new or directly related to the Galaxy S8 or Note 8 or to a recent software update. It could be because of different reasons: For this to truly select manually the carrier, you have to first turn off the "Data" and "Data Roaming". In order to properly search and manually select a carrier. I don't think any customers care about who's at fault, or why it is happening due to whatever technical excuses there are.

T-Mobile works with Samsung on its firmwares. All of us with the issues are on T-Mobile firmwares so it seems. So we are asking T-Mobile that we need this warning removed. If we must have this warning. We then need an option to only see it once; Or we need an option in settings to disable it from popping up every few minutes, interrupting whatever we are doing on the devices. We shouldn't have to do anything you mentioned after 7 months of this issue.

I just updated the security patch shown by magenta posted 2 March , but that did not fix the problem Maybe the new version of Samsung Experience will fix it?? Very annoying. So it is still not fixed. It does look like our only hope is Oreo. Good thing my phone is almost paid off. I'm done with it and Tmobile if this issue isn't resolved. Called Samsung and they won't take credit for the issue.

They couldn't resolve it either. I'm in Italy right now and both my and my husband's Note 8 have the warnings pop up all the time. Especially annoying to have them pop-up during driving and block the screen - very dangerous to have to look on the screen and tap it just right to have the warning go away. I can't believe that it's been 7 months and no one in T-M or Samsung has done a thing about it!

I'm in Spain getting the same problem, it's horrible. Given how long this has been an issue I can't see any solution saving to switch providers. So T-Mobile, don't get me wrong, but I am not agreeing with blaming Samsung alone. This is related to Samsung with T-Mobile. I got the Oreo update today. Let's hope it's fixed in Oreo. I'll find out end of March when I leave the country.

If anyone upgraded before that and is roaming, please let us know if it's fixed under Oreo. Okay, so I paid a lot of money to T-Mobile for a working S8 phone and the support to use this phone internationally. The hardware I purchase includes a software component. As far as I'm concerned, my S8 is defective. Further, my service that I pay large monthly fees for is hobbled. You've had ample time to resolve this and nothing's happened, so I now expect you to replace my phone with a working one that does not have this popup bug.

If you can't fix my s8, then what is my recourse? I'm traveling internationally for a year. I get this notification repeatedly and this is going to get old really fast. My traveling companion also has the Samsung Galaxy S9 but uses Sprint. She does not get this pop up. Can we please please please get this resolved?

I had the same on my Samsung Galaxy s8 and was hoping that this would be resolved on a new phone. I am in Germany right now. The pop-up message still appears, but with the Oreo a little less often. Prior to the trip I escalated to T-Mobile and I had an agent, who really cared and followed up. He even got Samsung on the phone and connected the dots.

Please take care of this problem. It originated with one of the recent updates. When they should be aware that won't solve it. This makes using T-Mobile and the Samsung phone overseas a real pain. This forum is also difficult to use as part of the sides of the text can't be seen. This keeps happening with my Note 8 Oreo. I'm currently roaming in France and the alert pops up every 20 minutes or so.

The alert appears to be an Android alert. Oreo 8. It is still the same, constant pop ups. The frequency may be reduced to 10 times a day now instead of 10 times per 15 minutes. This issue has been going on for way too long for the top to ignore. I suggest we all do the same. Actually I called Samsung support again. They ofcause had no record of my conversation from two weeks ago They claimed that I should go to a particular Best Buy store with Galaxy experts and get my phone completely wiped and reflashed.

The previous agent was asking about the model number. Mine is an SM-GU. I am wondering if we can narrow this down to a certain range of models. Is it all related the the U-models? I just spoke to someone who apparently work in the Office of the President at T-Mobile. I gave him all of my details on my phone softwares and locations of occurrences.

Same issue on my Note 8. I'm in Bahrain working and the same pop up is driving me carry. It has popped up 4 times since I logged in to write this message alone. Something or someone needs to fix this issue. It's not a Samsung issue it's Tmibile. I updated the latest software Oreo on April 2nd before I left the states.

I received a call back after further investigation from the Office of the President at T-Mobile. He said the the head of the development dept. They have been working on a solution for over a month now, and it should be resolved within the next 2 upcoming software updates. I will believe it when I see it. But that's what the person who works at John Legere's office said I have the same problem with my New Samsung Galaxy S9 Oreo, it's is very annoying, please stop this annoying popup. It's Tuesday April 17th and I can confirm this is still an issue on the sm-gt on android 7.

Cancun specifically. Looks like T-Mobile won't fix our issue which is a pitty. I broke my screen right before I left to come here and I was thinking about upgrading, but looks like I'll be switching to a pixel 2 on Fi. What a shame they won't do anything to help us. And yes I have all updates currently available. I work in the u. Now I'm traveling in Australia and its popping up all the damn time, found this thread after googling for a fix, guess I'm out of luck.

My phone is a Samsung s9 plus with oreo. We have identified the issue and are working in conjunction with Samsung to develop a fix. I don't have an estimated time but we are hoping to have something soon! If their update pattern with LG V30 and Oreo is any indication, here's hoping you see it sometime soon.

All people are getting is "it's coming soon! One LG rep actually told me to blame Google for it not being released even though they're LG the ones who released it for everyone else. That tweet storm lasted about 15 tweets from just asking politely when it was coming out for TMobile when it came out for everyone else. One person on Twitter told me that TMobile reps in the store told him that Oreo was never coming out for the V30 and talked him into trading his phone in for an S9 which is having THIS issue. Guess that teaches me never to buy another phone from TMobile directly again.

The one thing I loved about buying international phones is that these things tend to not happen as everyone would run into this and they would've fixed it a long time ago. The fact that no one tells you what's actually going on is the more frustrating thing. Everyone's pointing fingers at everyone else and no one is taking that energy into actually delivering the update. Next time I buy the phone outright as a used phone unlocked on eBay or something, or just buy an iOS device which doesn't have to deal as much with carriers to deliver updates.

Has absolutely nothing to do with t-mobile. No need to get angry at them. Carriers aren't exactly the most consumer friendly class of business but in this case I believe they are innocent. I don't doubt this is Samsung's issue as they just assume you'd want data roaming disabled based on how other carriers are. But that's it. It must be because it's an Asian phone as they probably roam all the time. The fact that LG has G7 coming out soon can't be a coincidence. Even if Samsung does fix it, it still has to go through TMobile before you get it.

My point was that TMobile still hasn't delivered our update when every other carrier did last month, so hopefully you'll get it soon but don't be disappointed if you don't as we're getting the runaround ourselves. This does not seem to be unique to Samsung, as I was just roaming in Bermuda earlier this week with a Moto Z2 Force and saw the same message on a much too frequent basis. Really, there should be a way to dismiss this and say "don't warn me again". Any news on this?

We are well past the window of a reasonable timeframe. Should I give up on Samsung? Hi Chris. In April you stated that Tmobile identified the issue and will have a fix soon. Can you please give us an update on this issue? I have an S9 and I keep getting this annoying popup in Mexico.

Maybe a modorator can pin it to page one, if it works for others. Ive been in Italy for 3 days. Got Tmobile for travel, as i live in Washington State. Began getting this same popup, with HIGH frequency. I went to settings galaxy s9 plus notifications, advanced, to show system notifications. Not sure which one got it, but disabled as many "android" as i could, and any other that wont block, i disabled. After all, they are notifications so who cares. No idea which one got it, but its been 5 hours since it has done it again. After all, the thing that pops up IS a notification is it not?

Maybe the brain people can figure oit WHICH one it is, go to its associated program the tells it to pop up, and apply a fix, or simply add a button to the data roaming thing that says settings, under settings add a "allow notification" button. Anyway, i will post back if it happens again. Ive got it times in one day, now it it does go away, its indisputable that one that u shut off, did the trick.

Hope it works for you, but it does take a GRIP of time to go through all the system notifications. Can anyone confirm if this is fixed in the new April security software update? I won't leave the country again until end of May. I'm traveling for a year Really ready for this to get fixed. Arrived in Lima Peru yesterday. Got the pop up 4 times before I got off the plan. No it seems to come up just a few times a day. I will be switching to sprint when I get back. Doubt the merger will ever take place and if it does, maybe the problem will be fixed by then. This is beyond ridiculous.

I wonder what would happen if all of us with this problem switched. Maybe they would not even notice or care. Just impossible to believe they allow this to continue. I have been overseas for the majority of the last year, which is why we changed over. The notification has popped up three times just while typing this. Please fix it! I stopped getting these pop ups by going to "Mobile Networks", "Network operators", "Default Setup" and selecting "Manual".

It doesn't fix the issue but it's a workaround. I think Google and T-Mobile leaves this on to force people to leave roaming on, because the annoyances are so horrible the only real fix is to turn on roaming to not get flooded with notifications. Its been a year and no fix or work around. LG V30 users who just got the update are now being bombarded with these messages, to turn roaming on. Not sure what you mean here. My roaming is always on, because my T-Mobile plan covers most countries I travel to for no additional charge. While not as frequently as others on this thread it is happening to me too.

This is on an unlocked S9 purchased from Samsung. Same on my S9. I have an S8 and cannot express enough how fast this issue needs to be resolved. Yesterday while driving a rental in a foreign country on the opposite side of the road that I'm accustomed to while using my phone for navigation, this notice popped up over times in 1 day. I paid for a high speed international data pass and even have maps downloaded offline, yet this notice constantly comes up blocking navigation.

On a couple instances it happened during heavy traffic and odd intersections causing nearly 2 accidents as I had to hit cancel to have it pop up seconds later. Several other times I took wrong roads and even needed up going the wrong way as I couldn't see maps when I needed it most. I would be highly shocked if somewhere in the world there has not been someone seriously injured in an accident while navigating to this flaw. Every day this issues isn't addressed t mobile risk the life of every customer globally which navigates with their phone.

I pray if anyone has been injured by this known flaw that tmobile hasn't addressed for over 6 months, that they seek litigation to punish tmobile for their blatant disregard to people's physical safety. Just got home from Australia where it kept happening. Ive already given up on a fix, but went into tmobile for a second line. The rep there is a friend of mine. We discussed my recent issue very briefly as when i asked, he laughed hiself silly. He was like "dude, forget about it.

Its all a joke within the company". Here the deal, tmobile isnt a top company like verizon or att, and never will be, and they know it. They are merging anyway and have an attitude of interference. Want proof? Look at this thread. They dont have the guts to even address comments any more. They suck, they know it, and we arent paying premium money anyway. Same problem in Hamburg, Germany with my new S9. Didn't have this problem in previous visits with my tmo S6 when I've visited here before. Very sad! A team will respond within 12hrs. They told me the top is aware of the problem and a fix will be released within April - June security patches.

The more people that email him about the problem, the faster they will move it up the priority ladder.

You may unsubscribe instantly from T-Mobile Support, or adjust email frequency in your email preferences. I updated my S8 yesterday. I'm 'in Ireland and it hasn't changed anything, still pops up hundreds of times a day. For navigation I figured out a work around. Download maps offline and put your phone in airplane mode so you can at least navigate without it popping up while driving. In Qatar I get this popup constantly!! It drains my battery because it pops up in my pocket.

This has been going on since the original thread in Is there seriously no fix? So annoying!! They told me the problem was with the software and they were waiting for Samsung to fix it. He said he did not know when that would be, but hoped it would be within the next couple of months. According to him, there is nothing TM can do. He did suggest that if you were traveling have had internet, you could stop the pop-up by turning off cellular data. As I understand what he said, the pop-up is caused by the cellular provider so turning off cellular will stop the problem.

Not the best solution, but some help when you are in the hotel room at night. Please let me know if this works for anyone? Ha ha LMAO!! Samsung Galaxy 7, 8, 9, Note because Samsung decides for our customers that you should never roam on another network because Any resolution to this?

I'm in France using the international roaming which stinks BTW. Keep getting this annoying pop-up. It's not the end of the world I'm more interested in just getting a fair data speed, but I would be grateful to be able to configure the phone to stop this pop-up. Seems like a very simple software fix that could be done in 24 hours.

Anyone have an just popped up again an update? No Solution other than manually pick the carrier, but that doesn't fix much once you move out of a general area. Once they merge with Sprint, it will be fixed. Out rates will go up, but it will get fixed anyway. Extremely frustrating. I recently switched from Verizon to T-Mobile so I could use free in international data, as I have moved to guam.

Extremely obnoxious. It blows my my mind they don't atleast have the "I know i'm using data roaming don't bother me again!!!

Me as a back up. Issue solved. I have the Galaxy note 8 unlocked. Spent bucks. Never again. I'm staying with the Google pure Android phones moving forward. Avoid Samsung LG and other third party phones like the crabs. I am also extremely annoyed by this issue. I travel often and this is the reason I've chosen T-Mobile. I have to click this annoying warning times every day. I think T-mobile is not completely honest here when they say that this is Samsung problem.

I bought my phone from them and it comes with custom T-mobile customized ROM. As most carriers, T-mobile works with phone manufacturers to customize ROM on the phones they sell. The unwillingness to fix this issue does not look good. It may be perceived as T-mobile discouraging customers to use data while roaming. It is free with the plan, but not free to T-mobile, I assume. So if they harass the customers with this pop-up to disable their data while roaming they will save money.

I think as consumers we should demand this fixed. Until it is not we should take it up to social media e. Twitter to warn people who are considering switching to T-mobile about his issue. Maybe the prospect of losing revenue will encourage T-mobile to fix this issue. Terrible customer service but the problem will go away. When I move, my family plan moves as well Any updates on a fix?? This is very frustrating. Warning won't stop even when roaming is turned off. I am going for a 1 month trip to Europe next week and I am not looking forward to clicking on this warning dozens of times every day.

So I seem to have found a temporary fix for the annoying popup that we all so much hate while traveling overseas. You will not be using LTE but at least there will not be any annoying popups while trying to do some work. You can always change it back if you need to. I have not had any warnings pop up at all since I changed that setting. Hope that works for you. It's a very good trick since most if not all of us are not using LTE coverage while roaming Internationally anyway. Thank you! I'm giving this a try. Thanks for the idea.. Didn't work for me but I appreciate the attempt at help since t.

I'm sorry it didnt work for you as it worked for me. Maybe try the other options there.

How to disable pop-up warning about Data roaming | T-Mobile Support

I know this is very frustrating. It was very annoying when it was popping up every 10 seconds when I was trying to get simple tasks done on my phone. It did not do any of this prior to the update. The only thing I can suggest is back up your phone and then set it to the factory settings which reverses the update.

Its cumbersome but may be worth a try. TMobile needs to come up with a fix asap. Easy to test: This annoying roaming message pops up every time. Add this customer to your list of people who are waiting for a solution to this annoying "International Roaming Notification" that keeps alerting your customers without any option to confirm and disable future notifications. This is happening every few minutes when going in and out of Wi-Fi range here in Japan a country that is included in International Roaming Coverage and it's getting to the point where I just want to turn International Roaming off.

Also note that I tried to call T-mobile International support directly but I ended up in a continuous loop in the support hold queue. These people are clueless and pathetic. They do not deserve our business. Are you talking about the incompetent, high paid, clueless people in the T-Mobile management office? If anyone of these "competent" executives would have an Android phone on a standard plan, the problem would be fixed already.

I am getting this incredibly annoying popup as described and it's definitely new.

It started happening with a tmobile update and it's a horrible experience destroyer for the phone. Please give us an update. Hello, I am going to start to add a reply to this every day until the problem that is T mobiles fault, because it didn't exist before the last update, is fixed. If it seems like me spamming this forum, imagine what spam looks like. How about a popup on your phone as frequent as once every 20 seconds?? This pop up on a service you are paying very good money for and the popup makes your phone sub-usable. And your mobile operator appears to be ignoring the message because there are posts about it for months.

So, my daily message isn't spam. I would guess I am getting this popup more than times a day. And your form is junk because I can't attach a screenshot. I know this because I am a programmer. So, get this fixed. I will message every day because you are spamming me, not the other way around. I know this isn't the fault of any one person but tmobi needs to apply resource to this and now. Funny how T-Mobile denied that the issue is theirs. It is theirs, I have been using my own unlocked S7 Duo in Spain for year and half now and have never seen this until I dropped it and had to go to my backup, T-Mobile branded S6 and voila, we have a problem.

Hey Chris, it's almost August, any news?. It also does this on my unlocked S9 purchased directly from Samsung. Maybe your phones are running different versions of Samsungs operating system? Ah, interesting. My S6 runs Android 7. I have developer options turned on on both phones.

In my case it never happened very frequently, enough to make me curious to look it up, not enough to impede my work or some such. It's an annoyance. You are welcome. I am glad it worked for you. It seems to work for some and not for others. Maybe it depends on the operating system itself. However, for those that it does not work for, it does seem to keep the frequency down of the pesky pop ups. I am getting a similar problem on an LG V20, just upgraded to Oreo.

It keeps asking me a second time every time I try to turn my mobiledata on or off. Quite annoying. If anyone has found a way to disable this, please share. I just wanted a V20, I didn't want tmobile but it came preinstalled. I do not see in this thread a solution. Everyone points out to T-Mobile. This year using OnePlus 5 I have been in 12 countries with out this issue. If not, can another Tmobile rep please give us a status update. In April y'all stated that the issue was identified and a fix will come out "Soon". How soon? Hey amonra. We released a bunch of MR updates and it looks like it fixed it for most of the folks since the thread died down.

What kind of phone do you have? I know it has been a couple weeks since you last posted this and the OP6T is a newer phone. Have you received any updates on the device and if so, is the problem persisting as of now? Hey Chris, thanks for your reply. I have a Galaxy S9, unlocked, on T-Mobile, with the latest updates. The Roaming. It is unlocked from factory, it was never TMobile branded. Thanks amonra and magenta Nothing as of yet amonra. Did you see my private message. Can you please provide me with the following information so I can get this escalated to our support folks. Not sure if any updates have been installed, there have not been any OP OS 9 updates since November 1, Not sure if there are any separate T-Mobile related updates for this phone aside from OS 9 updates.

Branched to a new discussion. Ever since then I've been getting the following pop-up warning: This content has been marked as final. Show 23 replies. All replies Hey there! Find a better Carrier and don't believe anything T-Mobile says thats the best way to fix it. Well, I'm currently in Korea so contacting samsung shouldn't be too hard So that means that Oreo is not going to fix this, nor does the S9.

I am wondering what we need to do as customers to escalate this further? I guess we have two choices.. Fingers crossed there's a solution in the future from the manufacturer. Could you maybe escalate the issue so the developers are aware of it? Regards, Steen. I have T-Mobile because my job takes me abroad most of the year. That's a cop out. Stop trying to harass customers into shutting off their data roaming plans. Contact info below!

Contact Us. Thanks so much. Please fix this and get back to us asap! I purchased Tmobile device, not Standard samsung system, but customized to Tmobile. Act responsibly. Here is the message. Also i contact with Samsung also included answer. I mentioned a couple of days ago, I got a software update from T-Mobile. It required a full shutdown and reboot of the phone. This has reduced the the pop ups significantly. Maybe 3 today as I toggled data roaming on and off.

Maybe it was blind luck, maybe not. Now I have Samsung Experience 8. I am glad the Dec. That's good to know, I just updated the phone to that also. I cannot replicate this problem as I'm not in Brazil right now. The message is confusing on tmobile.

We don't pay roaming with only a few exceptions. I'm in China now with an S7. Yes would I know which network to manually select? I thought the problem went away, but in the last 30 minutes it has popped up at least 15 times rendering my phone almost unusable as I can't simply ignore it. Data roaming is almost always off. I've gotten the warning endlessly. This has to be fixed! I am currently in Colombia - Service is working just fine.

Extremely extremely annoying. For everyone having the issue, can we get the following: Samsung Galaxy S8 Android version 7. Android version 7. SMU Android 7. SM-GT Android 7. I'm having the same issue now with my new Galaxy Note 8 in both Taiwan and the Philippines.

How to Disable or Enable Data Roaming Samsung Galaxy S6 Basic Tutorials

Thanks for the info folks! Im in Mexico and me and my husband are having the same issue. Galaxy note 5 Andriod version 7. This is not a bug, this is a business decision. If the popup does come back I'll update, but l'm sure this was the answer. This is becoming incredibly irritating. It happens every minutes. This really needs to be fixed. I arrived in Oslo, Norway, 15 minutes ago and I've been harassed to turn off my data roaming multiple times while waiting for my baggage.

Clearly intentional harassment to coerce customers into turning off their roaming, otherwise there would be an option to disable permanently. I seriously regret not switching phones and service prior to this trip but didn't have time. Phone info: SMU, Android 7. Vodaphone, Telecom. In Guatemala. Using a Galaxy S8. Same nuisance message. No way to get rid of it. Please help. Both my husband and I are getting this notification on vacation in Mexico. Incredibly annoying. As I said before, even with roaming turned off, the message would pop up.

Now it's happening to me in Stockholm. Google Maps and basic Internet searching museum hours, restaurant phone numbers is mostly impossible. Always getting notifications that I'm offline so endless notifications that I'm roaming and then, as if to be funny, that I'm offline.

Same thing for me in Guatemala. Hardly working. In and out. Every few minutes my phone is inoperable.. Moral of this story: SM-GU Android version 7. Phone 2 - Note 4 Bell Canada phone unlocked. I truly hope T-Mobile is actively resolving this annoyance with Samsung as we speak. This is nonsense. Yet still nothing has been done. T Mobile service on this issue has been truly lacking. Same situation, iphone and galaxy, same result.

Now it's every 30 seconds. Has rendered my phone almost inoperable. I just bought a new Galaxy S8 Active and this notification is very annoying. I'll put some info too, even though this is clearly a broad issue. The positive to this thread is that it does not seem to happen with IPhone. If you get this pop up frequently, it means the phone is switching between different carriers.

The other option, is to manually select the carrier. SM-GU Android 8. I just received a software update last night from T-Mobile. Let's hope this issue is resolved. I did not get an update. Can you identify it and let me know if it works. That's what I got last night. I won't be out of the country until end of March. We will see. When is it coming out??? I have no clue. It's rolling out slowly accross Europe. So I am assuming soon In the US. Model number: The warning also pops up whenever I turn off flight mode. Usually twice within less than one minute after I removed the first one.

Main issue here is the annoying sound It's not even possible to turn it off under app and system notifications. I was able to get rid of the alert sound! But the visual still pops up minor issue but still annoying. The settings are under Mobile data alerts. The attachment shows my current settings. If I disable notification dots in the category above - the warning is still coming.. I regret I do not know who this is from. My point is: My cell phone has not warned me for the last whole 3 minutes, so it must be off. Please help us improve our website. Take our customer survey to evaluate your visit.
